Questions on Scholarships?? 6 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Ok, my name is Dustin and I recently got into the world of track and field. Actually, it was my senior year of high school,(2008-09), that I decided to try throwing shot for the first time in my life. I found that I really loved doing this and kept practising and lifting. At the beginning of the season I was only throwing aroun 38 to 40ft and was not that good. Then as the year progressed on I became better, ending up getting 2nd and my sectionals and 9th at my regionals with a final throw of 50ft 4in as my personal best with the glide.
Now I am a freshman in college(2010-11) at DIII school and have now started learning the roational form, and am currtently throwing 47 to 48ft with a 16lb. Now my question is, what kind of scholar ships would have been available to me if I were to have been a more well known name. Please feel free to relay any information that may be helpful in my quest to figure this out.

Thanks Dustin

Well, Dustin I must first congratulate you on achieving the 50ft mark so quickly in your career. To let you know a lot of division I schools would be interested in a 50ft freshman. The only problem is not every school can find you. My suggestion is if you are looking to transfer schools, contact the throws coaches at those schools and let them know what you are throwing. Coaches are really busy at the college level and don't always get the oppurtunity to do scouting all year round. So athletes have to let them know they are interested in attending their school and competing. And yes there is sholarships to be had out there for good throwers, but you may not be offered any until a coach can see what you can do not just throwing but if you are coachable as well. Hope this helps and good luck.
