I am a high school throws coach. I am dealing with CLUB softball coaches who tell their girls that throwing the shot will hinder their softball prospects. Besides deflating the tires on their car, how do you deal with this? Does anyone have a good approach?
Sorry for the emotion but I always encourage kids to participate in as much as they can. They are only kids once.
You may want to just sit down with the coach and explain the throwing technique and try to explain that it will actually help their pitching because it will build up the rotator cuff, which most women can injury easily in softball as well as men in baseball. Look at how many of those injuries occur in the first place. But it would also be wise to have them teach you about the softball pitch so you know what they are talking about. It is my opion that if you go in with an attitude of interest in the other sport than most of the time so will the other coach and you can both accomplish something good for both sides, either knowledge or a new athlete. Good Luck.
