I'm having trouble getting my kids to hit a power position with a stiff block leg from a full turn. They tend to get their weight too far forward and they can't get their hips in the throw as much. Any suggestions for a stronger block?
I have always had this problem with my kids. The first thing I do is work from the front of the circle. Have your kids stand in their power postion and when they throw have them lift their blocking leg off the ground before they release the discus. This will reinforce staying back on the back leg and not shifting their weight. If done right they will not be able to go forward without falling down. Once they have gotten a feel for this have them do it from a half turn postion. I would not have the do it from a south african or a full throw though. Also give the kids a que by telling them to make sure they finish their throw with their heads and chests up to the sky, up on their toes and center of gravity down between their feet (in the middle between their feet). Hope this helps.
